This Kellyville Landscaping and Deck Project involved extending the clients existing decking area. In addition, we used landscaping techniques to deal with a poorly constructed and unsightly retaining wall. Our client also wanted us to relocate their children’s trampoline to help them reclaim their backyard. This would give them a large entertaining space and giving their young family a new play area to enjoy.
BACK YARD
The client wanted to relocate their children’s trampoline so that they could extend their entertaining deck. This required demolishing an existing retaining wall and excavating a section of their backyard. A new retaining wall was constructed to provide space for the trampoline and to construct the new deck extension.
We demolished the retaining wall and excavated approx 12 tonne of soil from a section of their terraced backyard. This gave us a lower level area to place the existing trampoline. We constructed a timber sleeper retaining wall to retain the excavated soil. It was constructed to match the existing retaining wall. It used galvanised steel posts with fencing steel c section posts attached to the posts to act as sleeper guides/supports. The timber sleeper sections slid down the c section posts to support the wall and retain the soil.
The retaining wall also acted as support for the new deck above. We used steel post supports to carry the low height framing which we construct to Australian standards. The framing was clad with treated pine decking fixed to the frame using climacoat treated pine decking screws.
Part of the brief required us to come up with a solution to deal with a poorly constructed and unsightly retaining wall. The wall had inadequate drainage and caused the render to crack and look badly. Instead of costly and unnecessary rectification works, we came up with a cost effective way to hide the retaining wall. We continued the decking up and over the wall to create a pot stand for plants and a built in bench seat.
To finish off the project, we laid softfall playground mulch. This provides a safe base for the trampoline and for the children. The deck was built at a perfect height to allow the kids to enter the trampoline straight off the deck.
